Full English Breakfast

Hi, this recipe is my own and serves one, but can easily be scaled up for more! I have previously made an Easy full english and a Vegan full english , if you want to have a look at those too.  This was much faster to make than I had anticipated and everything came together at the just right time, which is always a bit of a worry with having so many pans on the go at once (and things under the grill too!). You can change up how you cook the egg (I did scrambled) but some other options are poached, boiled, fried or even baked eggs (think Shakshuka-style).  Traditionally, you may also have fried bread, fried or grilled tomatoes and black pudding, so feel free to add those too. And, is usually served with a nice cup of tea. Enjoy! Step-By-Step Delicious Mixed Berry Porridge

Hi, this recipe is my own, it has been adapted off of various recipes off of the back of oats packets that we've brought in the past, until it suited me. I eat this literally every day for breakfast, rain or shine, and it is very nice. Admittedly, it is nicer to eat in winter than in summer, because of the heat of the porridge, but it's still delicious whatever the season. If you don't like hot breakfast in summer, you can make an overnight oats version of this, by putting the milk and oats in the fridge overnight and the oats should soak up the liquids, it will take a bit of experimenting as I haven't done this before as, maybe it would be better to add the yogurt as well as this point, the berries too. Who knows? Whatever you try, let me know if it works, I would be really interested to find out. It is a good amount of food for breakfast (I normally have it with a glass of orange juice) to keep you going through the morning/mid-morning and is really tasty as well. I have tried this with tinned coconut milk, so can vouch that my vegan alternatives are really good; it felt like a tropical flavoured porridge. Enjoy!

P.S: Porridge and oatmeal are the same thing, porridge is British, oatmeal is American.

Dietary Info:

-Unsuitable for Vegans {If Vegan, use tinned coconut milk, it adds a really nice flavour and is a fun twist to do as well. For the yogurt, lots of Vegan alternatives exist now, so any of those would be fine}

-Suitable for Vegetarians

-No Nuts

-Contains Dairy {See Vegan section}

-May Contain Gluten {Oats are naturally gluten-free but many companies make gluten-based products as well, so cross contamination is possible}

Serves 1
Cook: 5-7mins
Prep: 3mins
Total Time: 10mins

Ingredients:
-45g porridge oats
{I used Quaker Rolled Oats}
-300ml whole milk {Make sure it's full fat to get the best results. If you are vegan, use a tinned coconut milk}
-80g frozen mixed berries {I use Tesco's perfectly imperfect mixed berries}
-Full-Fat Greek Yogurt {I used Tesco's own-brand of this, but you can use whatever brand you like, you will need about 70g}
-Any additional toppings you desire e.g. nut butters, seeds, dried fruit, nuts, etc...

Method:

1: Chop up any larger berries into smaller chunks.

Plain Frozen Berries

Place the larger berries on a chopping board to cut.

Voila!

2: Gather all your ingredients at the side of the hob. You will also need, a sauce pan and a wooden spoon.

3: Pour the milk into the pan and add the oats. Put on a medium-high heat. Stir continuously. {Background noise in video is the radio, BBC, from Sat 31st July 2021}

4: Eventually, the porridge will start to thicken, at this point keep stirring for a 30seconds-1min more. Until reached the desired consistency you like. If you prefer a thicker porridge keep on the heat a bit longer, if not leave on for less time.

5: Decant into your bowl.

6: Top with the berries and Greek yogurt, adding any additional toppings, if desired.

I add the berries first, but you can do the yogurt if you prefer.

Yogurt and Berries!! Add any additional toppings now if you want.

7: Stir to combine, and enjoy!

You will get this lovely pink colour if using pink and red berries. Alternatively, you could add the berries in while you are stirring over the hob, but it's really up to you.
