Full English Breakfast

Hi, this recipe is my own and serves one, but can easily be scaled up for more! I have previously made an Easy full english and a Vegan full english , if you want to have a look at those too.  This was much faster to make than I had anticipated and everything came together at the just right time, which is always a bit of a worry with having so many pans on the go at once (and things under the grill too!). You can change up how you cook the egg (I did scrambled) but some other options are poached, boiled, fried or even baked eggs (think Shakshuka-style).  Traditionally, you may also have fried bread, fried or grilled tomatoes and black pudding, so feel free to add those too. And, is usually served with a nice cup of tea. Enjoy! Tesco Let's Cook || REVIEW

Hi, this is another review blog, like my Jamie Oliver Traybake review previously. But today, I am reviewing a recipe range made by the supermarket Tesco - Let's Cook. If you read my blog every week you will have noticed over the past few weeks, every other week, my post has been about a Let's Cook recipe and so will know this post has been in the making for a while now. In each blog post, I have detailed (in the introduction) what I thought about each recipe, the pre-made ingredients I used in the range and my own suggestions to add as you get more confident yourself in cooking.

Here's a quick video to introduce you to the range by Tesco.

The Let's Cook range is designed to have only 3 steps per recipe and be ready in 20mins. For me some took a bit longer because of my chopping speed or needing a bit longer in the oven, though they did all have 3 steps and some came with drink pairings and a chef's tip also, to add a bit of extra spice to the dish.

In total, I have made 4 Let's Cook recipes:

Overall, they were all nice meals and good in different ways. I think the Let's Cook range generally, yields nice meals that are simple to prepare and cook. But, usually could do with a bit more of something. For me, this is normally just switching out the pre-made/prepared food for my own home-cooked versions, like I did with the potatoes in the Herby Chicken & Potato Bake

Other times, like in the Fiery Beetroot, Banger & Potato Platter, using pre-prepared beetroot was much nicer and had a really lovely taste to it. That being said, you could replicate it at home if you wished to. So, it is really a matter of trying out all the recipes and seeing what you like and then trying to reproduce it by yourself. If you are ever unsure on how to do this, leave me a comment here or on another post and I'll see what I can come up with to help you.

I think in terms of ease of access, they are definitely accessible to all, with (in the ones I tried) no specialist equipment required and only use of basic skills to prepare - a lot of the preparation is already done for you anyway. However, my Dad has said all the ingredients are scattered around Tesco, not in one Let's Cook section, so they are a bit hard to access in the practical sense. We also have had occasions where ingredients are out of stock, fortunately you can easily substitute things and/or create your own versions of the missing ingredients fairly easily with even yummier results!

As well as this, they provide you will simple base recipes that you can easily adapt to suit families preferences or wants or what you have in the fridge, with lots of the veg and protein being able to be interchanged easily. Again any individual queries, leave me a comment.

Price-wise, I think that they are affordable, with every price per serve being less than the restaurant/take-away equivalent. But I would investigate further whether you save money buying pre-prepared potatoes and veg, rather than making your own in the long term. I suppose if you are burning them otherwise or not cooking them very nicely so you can't eat them, you are saving money. Yet, if you aren't doing those things, I would like to know if you end up saving money by making your own, my guess is that you do. If this is the case, I suggest you use the pre-prepared ingredients to find your feet a bit in cooking first, before attempting to jump into the creating your own versions. Then, you will have got more confidence in yourself and your abilities, more practice and so are more likely to produce nice food that you will eat, saving you money in the long term.

In conclusion, I think that the Let's Cook range is a great recipe range that provides quick and easy nutritional meals. After a bit of cooking practice, they will become too easy for you and so you may want to challenge yourself further by looking up (or even creating your own!) ingredient equivalents. They are well priced and easy to access for all ages and abilities.

While you're here...

I have a Pinterest for all my recipes, where you can save them to boards for the future and categorise them into different types of recipe e.g Sunday Dinners, picnic ideas etc. My account is @hazellikestocook, or find the link below. Also, I have a whole blog post explaining this in more detail here and https://hazelscookingandbakingblog.blogspot.com/2021/02/pinterest.html.
