Hi, this recipe is my own but I did use
this recipe to help me get the roll shape I wanted, so have a look if you are unsure by what I mean with the folding as it provides some good pictures to follow. These are plain sausage rolls but feel free to jazz them up as you see fit. Some good ideas are : adding apple and onion to the sausage, putting a little mustard in the roll before folding, adding a little cheese, maybe topping with poppy seeds, really it is up to you. I hope you enjoy!
Dietary Info:
-No Nuts
-Contains Gluten {You can make a gluten-free version of the pastry by switching the plain flour to a gluten-free plain flour or you can buy a ready-made one}
-Contains Dairy {For the pastry, substitute the butter for a dairy-free one but try to find a block not margarine or purchase a Vegan ready-rolled puff pastry}
-Unsuitable for Vegans {You would need to make the pastry dairy-free, see above, and then switch up the meat for an alternative e.g Quorn, Tofu, chickpeas, falafel ect}
-Unsuitable for Vegetarians {You can use vegetarian meat substitute see above for ideas}
Makes: 8 mini sausage rolls
Ingredients:
-200g sausage meat
-200g puff pastry {If using a home-made puff, you can find my recipe
Here, you will also need some flour for rolling out}
-1tsp mixed herbs
-1/2tsp garlic powder
-1/2tsp onion powder
-Salt & Pepper
-1 egg yolk, to glaze
Method:
1: First, in a bowl mash together your sausage meat and herbs/seasonings. Then, wash your hands, once everything is well combined.
2: Roll out your pastry until it is about the thickness of a £1 coin and is a rectangle. I didn't measure the size but keep in mind how many sausage rolls you want to make and go from there.
3: Now, get your sausage meat and make a long cylinder with it, and place this along the middle of your pastry rectangle.
4: Fold over one half of the pastry, horizontally, so that the edges are touching and crimp with a fork.
5: Glaze your roll with a egg. and make diagonal lines across the top.
6: Here you have 2 choices, one: bake as a bar and cut up the rolls later or 2: divide into 8 sausage rolls and bake already cut. I did option 2. For both, you will need to bake on a lined baking tray for 25mins in a hot oven preheated to 180℃/160℃ fan/350℉/ Gas 4. Enjoy!!
